Movie screenings by the Fulbright Alumni Association, Lahore

During this quarter, the Lahore chapter of the Fulbright Alumni Association organized movie screenings for alumni and their friends and families. The movie screenings, which will be a monthly feature going forward, were held at USEFP’s Lahore office.

In addition to two Oscar-winning movies, Green Book (2018) and Schindler’s List (1993), the association also screened the award-winning documentary film by Fulbright alumnus, Shehzad Hameed Ahmad Khan, Pakistan Four (2014). Khan is a Singapore-based filmmaker who has received four New York Festival Awards and Pakistan’s Journalist of the Year Award.

Workshop on ‘Drawing as Meditation’

In August, Fulbright alumnus Julius John Alam introduced the alumni to meditation, body scan meditation, mindfulness, and meditative drawing through a 90-minute workshop titled ‘Drawing as Meditation’. Alam is a Lahore based artist, writer, and facilitator. He has a bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the National College of Art, Lahore and a master’s of Fine Arts from The New School, New York. His art has been exhibited in galleries around the world including New York, Philadelphia, Zurich, Dubai, Karachi, and Lahore. He regularly publishes in Herald, Libas International and Art Now magazines, and currently teaches at the Institute for Art and Culture, Lahore as an Assistant Professor.

The Fulbright Alumni Association – Lahore chapter also plans to hold a talk on game theory and design by Dr. M. Ashraf Iqbal, and another on hypnotism by Fulbright alumnus Sarah Khan, this fall.

Fulbright Visiting Scholar shares strategies for admission to U.S. universities

On September 27, Fulbright Visiting Scholar, Professor C. S. McLoughlin, gave a talk on ‘Ten Strategies for Maximizing Your Success as a Grad Student at an Overseas University’ at USEFP, Islamabad. Prof. McLoughlin has many years of experience in recruiting students, including international applicants, for entry into prestigious graduate programs in the U.S. Knowing how some non-U.S. applicants inadvertently hinder their chances of being selected, he offered invaluable tips and guidance on maximizing prospects for admission to American institutions.
