USEFP’s GRE Outreach Heads to Sindh and Punjab

“I had heard from people that studying in the U.S. is like a dream come true, but [I] had very little idea on how to get there or what type of tests U.S. universities require. So, this session really worked wonders for me.”

This is what engineering student Ameena Khalid had to say about the GRE orientation session she attended at University of Engineering and Technology in Taxila. The GRE is one of the core components of the Fulbright scholarship application, and one that many students (both in Pakistan and abroad) continue to fear or experience anxiety about. Much of it stems from the “fear of the unknown” or the anxiety that comes from not having all the information necessary to proceed with an important task. To alleviate such trepidation, the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) has been undertaking a series of workshops and outreaches at various public colleges and universities across Pakistan to help students get better acquainted with the exam.

In addition to visiting select universities in close proximity to the capital city in Islamabad, USEFP also had the opportunity to conduct GRE workshops at key universities in Lahore, Faisalabad, Karachi, Mithi, Badin and Thatta. Participating higher education institutions include:

  • University of Agriculture Faisalabad
  • National Textile University Faisalabad
  • Government College University Faisalabad
  • University of Engineering & Technology Lahore
  • Government College University Lahore
  • University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences Lahore
  • Institute of Business Administration Karachi
  • NED Karachi
  • Sindh Madressatul Islam University Karachi
  • Allama Iqbal Open University Mithi
  • Sind University Badin
  • University of Sind Thatta
A GRE orientation session was also held in the boy's section of International Islamic University, Islamabad.

USEFP also facilitates GRE preparations by holding mock tests in select cities. This is a great way to gauge a student’s capacity to take classes, especially for those who’ve been away from the rigidity of a study environment and are interested in taking classes to improve their GRE score. Finally, top performers in the mock tests are awarded free GRE vouchers to facilitate students applying to U.S. colleges and universities, including those applying for the Fulbright scholarship Program.
