Record number of applications received, making selections tough but rewarding

The results are in. The dust’s settled. We’re not going to lie – the competition was fierce, with the largest number of applications received to date. Of the applications awarded, 55% of the students departing from the U.S. are women: the highest percentage of women ever selected.

Since 2005, over 1,500 students have been granted Fulbright scholarships, pursuing their dreams to study in the United States, with the costs for living, medical insurance, and travel (in addition to a spending stipend) all borne by USEFP.

1,685 applications were received from 100 universities, including Punjab University, University of Engineering and Technology (Lahore, Taxila and Peshawar), University of Peshawar, Bahauddin University (Multan), University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Karakorum International University (Gilgit), Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences and Technology, University of Sargodha and many, many others.

This year, applications streamed in from places as diverse as FATA, Baluchistan, Azad Kashmir, as well as Gilgit Baltistan, Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The 2016 Fulbright cohort will be pursuing degrees in engineering, health, energy, agriculture, natural sciences, the humanities, public policy and administration, social sciences, business and finance, economics, education, water resources, environmental studies and law.

Through national newspapers, radio shows, television broadcasts and social media, USEFP reached out to both public and private universities, answering students’ questioning and informing them about our programs. As a result, we received 1,685 applications from 100 universities, including Punjab University, University of Engineering and Technology (Lahore, Taxila and Peshawar), University of Peshawar, Bahauddin University (Multan), University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Karakorum International University (Gilgit), Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences and Technology, University of Sargodha and many, many others. The students will be attending leading universities in the U.S.
