USEFP regrets to announce the passing of three esteemed friends: former employee Mr. Ali Imran Afaqi, Fulbright Scholar Dr. Syed Rifaat Hussain, and Global UGRAD alumna Ms. Rimsha Asif. We extend our deepest condolences to their loved ones.

Mr. Ali Imran Afaqi

Mr. Afaqi passed away on February 7 in Karachi. He joined USEFP as an accountant in November 1964 and retired after 34 years of dedicated service as a senior officer in September 1998. He will be fondly remembered by his colleagues and the Fulbright and Humphrey alumni community.

Dr. Syed Rifaat Hussain

Dr. Rifaat Hussain

Dr. Hussain passed away on March 7 at the age of 72. As an educationist, political scientist, and defense analyst, he dedicated his life to pursuing knowledge. He earned his Master’s in international relations from the University of Denver through the Fulbright Program in 1989 and, in 2012, he attended Stanford University as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar. He headed the Department of Defense and Strategic Studies at Quaid-i-Azam University and also served as a professor and consultant at the National University of Science and Technology, impacting countless students and colleagues. Dr. Hussain was an active member of the Fulbright community in Pakistan and his passion for education and commitment to mentorship will be greatly missed.

Ms. Rimsha Asif

Rimsha asif

Ms. Asif, an alumna of the Global UGRAD Program in 2019, studied nutrition at the University of Wyoming. She was inspired by her semester exchange experience to return to her host university and pursue a graduate degree. Her dedication to her studies was matched only by her warm spirit and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her friends, family, and everyone who had the honor of knowing her.
