New USEFP Head Visits Lahore and Karachi, Reinforces Nationwide Commitment

Earlier this May, USEFP’s new executive director, Dr. Peter Moran, embarked on his first official visit to the regional offices in Lahore and Karachi. As he is based in Islamabad, this trip marked a key step in Dr. Moran’s leadership journey, one that prioritizes listening, learning, and deepening ties with team members and stakeholders across the country.

“During this trip, I saw first-hand the incredible talent, energy, and ambition of Pakistani students and educators,” said Dr. Moran. “Our role at USEFP is to be a bridge: to open doors, nurture partnerships, and support dreams. I’m excited for all that lies ahead.”

A packed itinerary

In Lahore, Dr. Moran, joined by former executive director Rita Akhtar, held high-level meetings at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Forman Christian College University (FCCU), and Kinnaird College. At LUMS, he met with Vice Chancellor Ali Cheema to discuss future collaboration, while at FCCU, a key highlight was the signing of an addendum to the existing memorandum of understanding with Rector Jonathan S. Addleton. A visit to Kinnaird College rounded out the Lahore itinerary, where Principal Iram Anjum welcomed the delegation for discussions on expanding access to U.S. study opportunities for women.

The Karachi leg of the tour was equally dynamic. Accompanied by Team EducationUSA, Dr. Moran met with senior leadership at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Habib University, NED University of Engineering and Technology, and the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture. These conversations centered on innovation, exchange programs, and strengthening institutional ties between Pakistan and the United States.

Two thoughtful roundtables anchored his Karachi visit: the first with high school counselors, who offered a grounded overview of today’s undergraduate applicants, and the second with the public affairs team at the U.S. Consulate, focused on expanding outreach and collaboration.

Beyond the meetings, Dr. Moran immersed himself in the vibrant rhythm of the cities through fun and immersive cultural activities. From strolling through Empress Market to breakfast at a local café, he lived the personal side of educational diplomacy.
