On April 1, USEFP Executive Director Rita Akhtar attended the Fulbright Prize Ceremony and Fulbright Association Luncheon in Washington, DC. She was also part of the International Selection Committee that chose Bono, lead singer of U2, as the recipient of the 2021 J. William Fulbright Prize for International Understanding.
In good company
Each year, this prize honors outstanding people who bring cultures, nations, and people together. Past laureates include Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, and Bill and Melinda Gates.
Through various advocacy campaigns and ventures, Bono has remained committed to fighting extreme poverty, tackling global health problems, and encouraging economic growth in the poorest areas of the world. The prize also benefits the charitable priorities of the winner, and Bono will be donating his $50,000 award to two of his ventures, ONE and (RED).
