December 2016 – EducationUSA Advising at USEFP organized training workshops (Counseling 101) in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore for individuals working in their respective school communities as guidance counselors and advisers. These educators were given information and training tools on various aspects of the U.S. enrollment and admissions processes and how to prepare students for the rigors of a college education. Topics discussed include the common application, financial aid, writing effective letters of recommendation, and tips on writing college essays. The counselors also had an opportunity to network with one another and share their personal experiences in their respective roles.
USEFP Visits Public Sector Universities
November to December, 2016 – EducationUSA Advising at USEFP continued its efforts to promote higher education in the U.S. by visiting numerous public universities in the provinces of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, interior Sindh and southern Punjab. The outreach comprised informational sessions on various aspects of the U.S. college application process including scholarship opportunities and admission test requirements. A key component of the information session was addressing queries and alleviating fears about the GRE – a standardized test that is an admissions requirement for most graduate schools in the U.S.

EducationUSA Pakistan successfully completed visits to the following 12 universities in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu Kashmir: Institute of Management Sciences, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women’s University, Islamia College, University of Agriculture, University of Engineering and Technology, Abdul Wali Khan University, University of Peshawar, Azad Jammu and Kashmir University, University of Hazara (Mansehra), COMSATS Abbottabad, University of Hazara (Havelian Campus), and University of Haripur.
They also visited various public sector universities in interior Sindh: Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (Jamshoro), Sindh University (Jamshoro), Quaid-e-Awam University of Science, Engineering and Technology (Nawabshah), Shah Abdul Lateef Bhitai University (Khairpur), and IBA Sukkur.
Students were also reached out via American Spaces at Bahauddin Zakariya University (Multan) and Islamiyah University in Bahawalpur.

November 25-26, 2016 – EducationUSA Advising represented USEFP at the National College Fair hosted by the Beaconhouse School System in Islamabad. Various local and international educational institutions participated in the inaugural fair to inform prospective Pakistani students about higher education programs and scholarships available locally and internationally.
EducationUSA Advisers were on hand for both days to meet prospective students and encourage them to apply to U.S. colleges and universities. The fair is an ideal forum for students looking for guidance on their college applications and for those unfamiliar with EducationUSA advising services.
AIESEC: Youth Development Forum

November 2016 – EducationUSA at USEFP hosted a session at the 2016 AIESEC Youth Development Forum in Nathia Gali, Abbottabad. The weekend long retreat brought together AIESEC members from across Pakistan for seminars and activities to strengthen their leadership skills and to better understand the demands of a global learning environment. EducationUSA Advisers were on hand to inform participants about ‘Your Five Steps to U.S. Study,’ a step-by-step process of understanding, preparing, applying and being admitted to a U.S. higher education institution. Brief queries on USEFP managed scholarship programs were also addressed.
US – Pak Knowledge Corridor

November 2016 – Over 100 participants attended orientation sessions at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology in Islamabad and Punjab University, Lahore respectively, to support Pakistani PhD applicants interested in applying to U.S. universities. Hosted by USEFP in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission in Islamabad, the initiative falls under the rubric of “U.S. Pak Knowledge Corridor” and Pakistan’s Vision 2025, which support education cooperation between the two countries and the strengthening of Pakistan’s education system. The orientation sessions informed interested applicants on a number of issues surrounding graduate level admissions in the U.S. including selecting a PhD program, the application process, financial aid, applying for a visa and studying for the GRE test – a prerequisite for graduate level admissions to the U.S. The orientation sessions also informed students about GRE workshops planned for Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
Moot Court Competition 2016

November 25 – 27, 2016 – USEFP Islamabad hosted its fourth successful mooting competition, Pakistan Law Moot (PLM), where 10 top-notch teams from across the country gathered to polish their legal and public speaking skills through three-days of intensive debating in a mock courtroom set-up. In layman’s terms, moot court comprises simulated oral arguments – where attorneys present arguments and answer questions posed by a panel of judges – and are eventually evaluated on the application of the law to the facts of the case.
The winners of this year’s PLM were University College Lahore with runners-up Pakistan College of Law. The U.S. Embassy in Pakistan supported the event, in partnership with the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network. For more information on PLM, visit: www.fb.com/PakistanLawMoot
